About  NSDC

NSDC is a first-of-its-kind Public Private Partnership (PPP) in India set up to facilitate the development and upgrading of the skills of the growing Indian workforce through skill training programmes. A large part of the organisation’s efforts are directed at the private sector and towards developing the skills in the unorganised sector in India. NSDC supports skill development efforts, especially in the unorganised sector in India by funding skill training and development programmes. It also engages in advocacy and training programmes, in-depth research to discover skill gaps in the Indian workforce, and developing accreditation norms.

Chaired by Former Vice Chairman of India’s largest IT company – Tata Consultancy Services, Mr. S. Ramadorai, NSDC is a Section 25 company with 49% of its equity held by the Government. The balance 51% stake is owned by industry, with ASSOCHAM, CII, FICCI, and sectoral bodies as the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, Council for Leather Exports, CREDAI, SIAM and NASSCOM being the private sector shareholders.

The changing demographic profile of the country, with 54% of its population under 25 years of age, rising aspirations of the youth seeking better jobs, and growing expectations of employers for an efficient, well trained workforce have contributed to a focus on skill development in India. Recognizing the urgency to reap the benefits of the demographic dividend and the need for coordinating skill development efforts in the country, Government of India notified the formation of Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship on 31st July, 2014. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) that became a full-fledged Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

The scheme also calls for the formation of sector skill councils. Among the many functions of these councils is to formulate the standards for both the training institutes and the assessment of the candidate. Collectively, these are called the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Qualification Packs (QPs) for specific job roles. Based on studies and reports, the targets of the scheme are demand driven and provided to training institutes based on job role and are specific to a region (district/city) as far as possible. Other national schemes like Swachh Bharat, Make in India, Digital India, National Solar Mission, etc. are also taken into account when planning targets.

The scheme also encourages youth participation with reward programmes and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). A large part on the PMKVY targets class 10 and 12 dropouts and special provisions and rewards exist for individuals from regions affected by terrorism, Naxalite-affected areas and the Northeast. The rewards for the guidance programmes vary and candidate performance, role and sector largely determine the rewards and monetary compensation.

We fully adhere to the requirements of improved curricula, enhanced monitoring and assessment standards, mentorship support and evaluation. We have many years of experience in vocational training. A robust placement programme complements this expertise and infrastructure. We ensure thorough and all round development of our candidates with additional soft skills training as well.
